Helnwein
Gottfried
Helnwein studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts
in Vienna. Helnweins arresting art is the product
of his continuing development of new mixed-media techniques
in which he changes, alters and combines various images
on the computer and then paints them with different
media on canvas. His work has been featured on various
book jackets as well as the covers of Time, Zeit and
LEspresso magazines. Helnwein has also created
stages and costumes for several plays and operas including
Oedipus, Rakes Progress, Macbeth, Pasolini and
Hamletmaschine. His work has been displayed in museums
and galleries throughout the world including the Smithsonian,
Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Fine Arts Museum in
Japan, Museum of Modern Art in Belgium, State Russian
Museum and the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. Helnwein recently
established a studio in downtown Los Angeles and has
been collaborating with Marilyn Manson and Sean Penn
on various visual projects.
