Van Hamersveld
John
Van Hamersveld attended Art Center College of Design
and Chouinard Art School. His drawings, photographs
and collages have appeared in Surf Magazine, Sports
Illustrated, and Surfer Magazine and on the cover of
Rolling Stone (famous drawing of James Dean). Van Hamersveld
created album covers for The Beatles, Jefferson Airplane,
Grateful Dead, Leo Kottke, The Rolling Stones, Kiss,
Blondie and Johnny Rotten. He has also designed many
posters, most notably for the movie Endless Summer,
the Pinnacle Rock Concerts (Jimi Hendrix) and for numerous
museums including La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art
and The Cooper Hewitt. Van Hamersveld taught at Cal
Art from 1978 to 1982. His work has expanded into apparel
design, logos for Contempo Casuals, signage for the
restaurants Morphosis and Broadway Deli. He launched
his website in 2001.
